A creative director focused on queer stories, music, and bold narratives
As a director, Imogen is passionate about female-led & queer-centric narratives, and continuously drawn to stories that delve into sexuality, grief, power, and love. Their process is ensemble led, collaborative, and holds empathy and courage as two central values. They adore working with actor musicians on contemporary texts and finding ways to weave music into production, as a means of elevating and enhancing the story. Imogen is committed to creating inclusive rehearsal rooms & telling stories that are representative of the world today. Stories that are evocative, daring & authentic.
A versatile director and drama educator with a passion for innovative productions
Imogen’s directorial production of tell me straight by Paul Bradshaw was Offie nominated, and won the Standing Ovation Award for Black Box Theatre in 2022. Previous work also includes Associate Direction on The Quarter Too Ensemble’s critically acclaimed physical theatre show WOJTEK: The Happy Warrior.
Imogen has several years of experience working as a workshop facilitator, teacher and freelance director in the UK’s leading drama schools including Italia Conti, Fourth Monkey, and Rose Bruford College; for which they have co-created the first year curriculum in Psychological Realism with Chaskis Theatre. They have also worked internationally with Oxford World Theatre and The Quarter Too Ensemble.
More recently their work includes Yerma by Lorca, adapted by Ursala Rani Sarma, and Dogville by Lars Von Trier, adapted for the stage by Christian Lollike. In the summer of 2023 they also directed Star Cross’d; a queer contemporary reimagining of Shakespeare’s timeless tragedy Romeo & Juliet, at Rose Bruford College, which they were co-commissioned to write for the second year students alongside Tanya Bridgeman (Soho Theatre Tony Craze Award shortlisted writer).
